Viet Nam Becomes Fastest Growing Tourism Market Of Japan
Viet Nam was the fastest growing tourism market of Japan with rising of 125.9 percent in 2018, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT)’s 2019 white paper on tourism that was released on June 21.
In 2018, more than 389,000 Vietnamese tourists visited Japan, up over 1.25 percent over 2017. The figure is predicted to continue rising in the future.
In the year, Japan welcomed 31.19 million foreign visitors who spent about 4.51 trillion JPY (42.19 billion USD). Compared to 2012, the number of tourists to the country expanded 3.7 times, while the spending rose 4.2 times.
Visitors mostly spent their money on shopping with over 1.23 trillion JPY, followed by accommodation with nearly 950 billion JPY.
China continued to be the leading country in the number of visitors to Japan with over 8.3 million, accounting for 26.9 percent of the total tourists to the country, followed by the Republic of Korea with over 7.5 million visitors, and Taiwan (China) with more than 4.7 million visitors.
According to the paper, along with big cities, other localities of Japan have become popular destinations for foreign visitors. Spending of the tourists in the localities in 2018 was 1.03 trillion JPY, a surge of 58 percent year on year.
The paper also shows the increasing attention of visitors to special experiences in Japan as well as exchanges with locals such as skiing and living with locals.
Besides, it also mentioned a number of problems caused by tourism such as reversal in locals’ life and environmental problems.
Japan will continue implementing policies to attract tourists while completing its infrastructure system and providing wireless networks to tourist destinations and promoting its tourism through the application of modern technology.

Ho Chi Minh City To Host Viet Nam–RoK Culture And Tourism Festival In September
After the success of “The Korean Days 2017” in Ha Noi, the Korea Tourism Organization in Viet Nam (KTO) will bring Korean culture closer to Vietnamese people at the 2019 Viet Nam – Korea Culture and Tourism Festival which is scheduled to take place in Ho Chi Minh City in September.
The organizer, KTO hopes the festival will present to Vietnamese people images of South Korea which are known as a beautiful and friendly country.
The event will include a series of activities presenting and promoting culture and tourism of the two countries to visitors, such as the introduction of new destinations and new tours, concerts with the participation of Vietnamese and Korean popular artists.
Viet Nam represents a tourism market with one of the greatest increases in the number of tourists in Korea in recent years. The Republic of Korea (ROK) will always improve the quality of tourism to provide convenient, efficient and enjoyable ways for Vietnamese visitors, said Head of KTO’s representative office in Viet Nam Park Jong Sun.
KTO will run a special welcoming week for tourists from Viet Nam in the first week of September. Welcome events and special promotional perks will also be offered to Vietnamese travelers in Korean airports.
In addition, KTO will organize many tourism promotional activities in Viet Nam, presenting Korean festivals, such as Buyeo Seodong Lotus Festival on July 5-7; Boryeong Mud Festival in Chungcheongnam-do on July 19-28; Jangheung Jeongnamjin Water Festival (also called the Jeongnamjin Aqua Festival) on July 16-August 1; Muju Firefly Festival on August 31-September 8 in Jeollanam-do; Busan Sea Festival at Haeundae Beach, Gwangalli Beach, Songdo Beach, Dadaepo Beach, Songjeong Beach, and at other places in Busan on August 2-6 in hopes of attracting more visitors from the Southeast Asian country.
Vietnamese visitors will also have a chance to enjoy public transportation and tourism benefits with Korea Tour Card Namhaean Coast offered by KTO. The cardholder will be rewarded with over 30 exclusive special benefits in the southern coastal regions of Busan, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Jeollanam-do.
