The only landlocked country in Southeast Asia, Laos is bordered by Myanmar and China to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the south, and Thailand to the west.
Laos has a tropical monsoon climate with two distinct seasons: rainy and dry. The rainy season lasts from May to November, followed by the dry season from December to April. This is usually seen as the best time to travel to Laos when the temperature averages about 15-30º Celsius.
Laos is also known as the “Land of a Million Elephants” and as Lan Xang. Tourist destinations in Laos are centered around 7 main areas: Vientiane, Xieng Khouang, Luang Prabang, Thakhek, Savannakhet, Pakse and Champasak. Situated on the Mekong River, across from Nong Khai (Thailand), Vientiane is known as the “city of temples”.
The beautiful, peaceful country of Laos enchants visitors with her solemn pagodas, gorgeous waterfalls, many distinctive Buddha statues with their friendly smiles, and the genuine hospitality of her people.
